Spring is not only the best time for outdoors, but it is now also important to upgrade the furniture inside the four walls. You may decide to treat yourself to a custom-built bespoke dining table, or even some new dining room chairs. Take your time and find what works best for you!
The dining table is much more than just the place where we take our meals. He is the center of living together in the apartment or house. We get together with our loved ones here at least once a day – not just to eat, but also to talk, to laugh, to plan, to comfort. Here cohesion and a sense of community are strengthened in the family, old friendships are cultivated and new ones are made.
This is precisely why you should be particularly careful when choosing chairs, tables and the rest of the furnishings in the kitchen or dining room.
The Chairs For The Dining Table
They should be at the right height in relation to the table – the most comfortable space is a distance of 30 cm between the seat and the tabletop – and, above all, they should be comfortable enough that an extended (evening) meal is not interrupted at some point due to back pain and on the living room couch must be relocated. Chairs that have a protrusion in the lower backrest area have proven to be very comfortable. Armrests and upholstery also increase the time spent at the dining table. In addition, the seating furniture should match the table in terms of material, shape and color, although in principle there are limits to your creativity.
TIP: (corner) benches also go particularly well with some tables and give an additional feeling of conviviality and hospitality. Refined, beautifully patterned cushions increase comfort and are an additional eye-catcher.
The Table
Here you are literally spoiled for choice. Wood exudes a certain warmth, but is sometimes not that chic, glass looks noble but is prone to scratches, metal is resistant and elegant, but can look a bit cold. A glass table is not advisable for families with children, as you can see every stain and fingerprint here and therefore often have to use cleaning rags and cleaning agents.
Apart from the material, the size is of course an important criterion: Of course, the table should be big enough that all relatives and friends can comfortably seat on it.
TIP: It is assumed for both adults and children that everyone needs 60 cm in width and 40 cm in depth for themselves. In the middle of the table, at least 20 cm should be reserved for placing pots or bowls. Your new dream table can be at least 100 cm deep. Keep in mind, however, that it should fit into your dining room or kitchen without someone having to sit with their backs against the wall.
Ideally, the table still has approx. 80 cm of space up to the wall when it is occupied, but at the places where (mostly) nobody is sitting, it should still be approx. 60 cm. In any case, the following applies: Before buying, measure the “parking space” at home carefully! As for the shape, a round table, which can be transformed into an oval by elongation, is considered conducive to communication. However, you should also make sure that the size fits. If the size of the round table is too large, the interlocutors simply sit too far apart and communication is more inhibited than encouraged. The cut and proportions of the room must also be taken into account: You should not place an elongated, rectangular table in a small, square room with a low ceiling height.
Decoration, Colors And Interior Design
Accentuate the bright, warm and colorful season in your dining area too! Decorate it with spring-like colors, stimulating decorative items for the table or fascinating wall and window hangings. Fresh, colorful bouquets or flower arrangements conjure up spring and summer on the table and put a smile on your face.
TIP: Don’t overload the table! Nothing is more useless than decorations that you have to take off the table at mealtimes so that everyone can still find enough space to eat. In principle, however, the same applies here: There are no limits to your decoration fantasies! With these tips and suggestions in mind, your family and guests are guaranteed to feel comfortable at the new dining table and everyone will be delighted to think outside the box!
